A Burning Bush
In the responsive reading from this week’s Lesson-Sermon, “Reality,” the well-known story of Moses and the burning bush is related. Below is an application of this from Sentinel (Feb. 26, 1996) written by Edmonde L. St. John, entitled “Is it possible for you and me to see a burning bush?” The idea he conveys is as follows:
“Is it possible for you and me to see a "burning bush," to hear and feel those things that point to God's control and loving purpose, even in the middle of routine or during a harsh experience? Yes, whether we are driving to work and caught in a traffic jam, or washing dishes at the kitchen sink, or struggling with an illness, God's Word can break through, bringing its own unique message to heal and deliver. One does not need the stillness of a desert to feel God's presence, but neither can a "desert experience" prevent God's Word from being heard. This divine message from God, the Christ, which speaks to mankind, brings wonderful reassurances that man and the universe are God's precious creation, entirely spiritual, embraced in His law.”
I reach Mind’s open door, and at its portal
I know that where I stand is holy ground;
I feel the calm and joy of things immortal,
The loveliness of Love is all around.
